Days after we dropped Pininfarina’s sketches on you–you Italian-loving readers–we have obtained official pictures of the new Maserati “GranTurismo” concept weeks before its Geneva launch.

Click through for view of the front, an interior shot, and Pininfarina’s original sketch.

In terms of engines, there is still talk of various V-8s, but the chief candidate seems to be a significantly updated version of the Ferrari-Maserati 4.2-liter V-8. Local chatter puts capacity at 4.5 liters—that will reportedly be good for upward of 500 horsepower. This is the engine that will in turn be shared with the apparently forthcoming costly Alfa Romeo super-GTs, which will be back on North American soil by 2009 or so.

The original sketch was exaggerated. But, hey, isn’t that always the case?

We’ll be on hand at Geneva for live shots. Stay tuned.

the sketch was a home run….the actual car is merely a single stretched into a double…..

This is quite the gorgeous thing. Everyone wants to bash everything the Italians do. They’re used to it and actually don’t give a damn what we think very much anymore. And they’re right to tune us out. I’m a dyed in the wool basher at times, but this is a beautiful adaptation on the Quattroporte chassis they were constrained to use due to cost issues. Fantastic and it’ll save the company I have no doubts.

It rivals the Mercedes CLS for the “Sketch on Wheels” award.

Wow, you must be just a kid. Do you think the “Gran Turismo” name started with the PlayStation??? Your homework is for you to do a little history research.

I think I just died a little inside, because I know I’ll probably never be able to afford this absolutely stunning car. Please tell me it’ll come with a slick six-speed manual!
Either way I have to say, Bravo Maserati, bravo. You’ve given me something to aspire to…

Today, I have placed my order for a grigio alfieri Gran Turismo. The car will be delivered in the first week of November and the dealership in Greece has already taken another 3 orders before mine!!!! This is, in my opinion, the most beautiful car of the last decade and one to be remembered for many years to come. I will have to wait though to specify the final equipment until June but the list price will be in the region of EU 160.000 (in Greece). I will trade my 2006 BMW M6 for this beauty and I will have absolutely no regrets about it. I have a significant collection of classic cars (including 2 Jag E-types, an XK-120 and a 1958 Corvette Fuelie) so I was always an admirer of classical beauty and this car was a love at first sight for me. Will keep you posted when I take delivery of the car.

I was just at the New York car show today anticipating my first face to face encounter with the Aston Martin amv8. But once i saw this beauty, i can’t stop thinking about it. All Aston Martins are beautiful and you can’t go wrong with any one of them but I know if I stop at a red light at Times Square (one of the busiest areas in New York, for those who don’t know) all eyes will be on me. yes it’s shallow, but who gives a damn when you own one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
