Maserati unveiled their GranTurismo this morning at the Geneva Motor Show. The 4.2-liter V-8 GT from the Trident brand is longer and prettier in person (even without the ruffled-dress model crawling all over it).

We spent a few minutes in and outside the V-8 coupe to photograph its finer points. Click through for more than a dozen photos and details.

As with all modern high-end sports cars from the Fiat Group, the GranTurismo’s interior is beautiful, expensive, and well built. It’s a shame to see that automatic gearbox, though, isn’t it?

We liked the car’s rear fenders the most, while the front end profile appears a little too much like a Honda S2000 for our tastes. Taken from the three-quarter view, however, we must say this is the most beautiful contemporary Maserati we’ve seen since the Merak or Khamsin. If this car is so beautiful, why haven’t they put in a larger engine (some have commented that the 4.2-liver V-8 isn’t enough)? Can Maserati ever be great as a Ferrari underling?

Maserati GranTurismo - Worldwide preview at the Geneva Motorshow

Modena - 20th February 2007. The new Maserati GranTurismo, styled by Pininfarina, makes its worldwide debut at the Geneva Motorshow.

The Maserati GranTurismo is a muscular and sporty car, that can be enjoyed every day and at the same time is engaging for the driver. Its excellent handling and sportiveness makes it a point of reference in its category. The Maserati GranTurismo is built with particular attention to comfort, choice of materials and details and with enough room for four people, as only Maserati can do.

The new Maserati GranTurismo is a high-performance sports car, exciting to drive with a 4.2 liter V8 engine, delivering 405 HP, and a weight distribution of 49% at the front and 51% at the rear. It is fitted with an automatic gearbox and equipped with an adaptive control system which adjusts the gear-shifting mode to the driving style and the driving conditions.

Maserati’s tradition of the Gran Turismo concept dates back to 1947 when the Trident Company, following its clients’ demand, unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow its first Gran Turismo, the A6, designed by the great Pinin Farina. It was the first Maserati road car and was produced in 58 units. The car was acclaimed by the automotive press for its advanced technical content and for its avant-garde style solutions.

The new model name - Maserati GranTurismo - is not incidental. Once again, the partnership between Maserati and Pininfarina gives birth to a car that is able to generate emotions and sets itself apart from competitors, due to the technique with which it is built and its unique style.

The new Maserati GranTurismo represents a further step towards the completion of the Trident product range, following the worldwide launch of the Quattroporte Automatic at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

i don’t like……
i ‘m looking for change my 997 S, but this is not for me…perhaps an ASTON V8 VANTAGE SPYDER, or a 997 Turbo.

Great to see real pictures of this sensational auto.
I currently own the 2003 gt cambiacorsa, and have been eagerly awaiting the release of a new model that would temp me to upgrade.

This one certainly gets my pulse racing having many of the changes I dreamed of making to my current car:

The combination of a more agressive snout(thank God no chicken wire)sleeker lines through the hip region and a sweet ducktail, give this model a profile to excite.

The rear contrary to your journo’s opinion is still debatable, being a bit too angular, from the picture shown, to blend perfectly with the rest of the vehicle. I would like to see a better picture taken from an angle thatwould show off the rear tubbing, and far enough back to prepresent the way the car looks on the road.

After the cambiacorsa gearbox a tight auto with sequential change will be a dream.

I agree with you on one thing, a 450 or 500hp motor would have been the perfect combination.

Maserati to me, represents the excitement of performance with the elegance of design, and boring as it sounds, some functionality. In these areas they have outstripped the competition with ease.

John, there’s nothing boring about wanting functionality. The only small complaint I have regarding my Elise is that I can’t fit a weekend’s worth of luggage for two in the “trunk”.

Maserati’s are exceptionally ugly cars, but this is quite good. It looks like they’ve finally stopped consulting Hyundai on their styling.

Sensational outer skin…but Alfa could use another engine. Or at least give the 4.2 a good once-over.

Don March 6th, 2007 3:07 PM Link

PS–Make that “Alfa” into “Maserati”. Oops.

Hey VMMMM or whatever, come back when you grow up and actually know something about cars.

[…] Our spy shooter friends at KGP Photography captured Maserati’s new GranTurismo live and in the metal today in Germany. The coupe, almost completely devoid of any camouflage, was headed to testing on the Nürburgring. […]

Very a shame about the radio. it`s a Peugeot/Citroen part!!! And the ac controls, come on… They ( Ferrari and Maserati ) are building better and better cars but that lack of effort on the details… I don`t understand it, details are the essence of a car, even more when we are in a Maserati…

I think it’s gorgeos, and all it needs now is more power (450to 470 sounds good) and a manual gearbox. Then, it’s perfection.

I mean gorgeous,, sorry:)
