eBay Auction of the Day: 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco
With the smoke still settling on Volkswagen’s Geneva release of its Europe-only new Scirocco, we thought that it would be a good time to highlight what we loved about the original car (and one Americans can still buy) with an eBay Motors pick. Much to our surprise this nicely kept, but high-mileage, 1988 example was the only Scirocco available on eBay at the time of this writing.
The dearth of used Sciroccos could be a result of the excitement being generated by the new car, or it could just be that collectors tend to hang onto the good looking, and good to drive vintage VW coupes.
In any event, the 1988 Scirocco listed here should offer plenty of 16-valve fun for a really low investment. And while we can’t help wishing that the current owner had spent a little more money on interior upkeep, and a little less on stereo equipment, we are talking about a $2,000 (or so) car here. Plus, beggars can’t be choosers right? Now that you've seen the new Scirocco and the old, tell us which you prefer in comments.

I prefer the original Giugiaro car, but this one's still more appealing than the pinched-and-tucked Golf they've got now.

We have '88 16V Scirocco with 157k miles. Great car. Engaging. Great ergonomics. Light. Fun to drive. Looks good. Too bad VW cannot make anything similar to it these days.

As much as I like the original Scirocco, I'm prefer a G60 Corrado. Hubba hubba and rare.
