‘08 NAIAS: Audi Pulls the Wraps Off its TTS
2008 marks the tenth year anniversary for the TT, Audi’s little 2+2 sports coupe. Since its launch, the TT has been widely acclaimed around the world for its bold style and spot-on performance. Next on the docket for TT stardom is the introduction of the TTS, a faster, more-powerful, sportier variant of the widely-loved coupe.
The TTS uses a tuned version of the slick 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the base TT, complete with Audi’s famous FSI direct injection. Audi officials say that the TTS will produce 272 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and that the manual-equipped coupe will rocket to 60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds. A manu-matic S-tronic is available, though we’re sure true enthusiasts will opt for the stick.
Exterior updates include a revised headlamp cluster with a LED strip, new eighteen-inch wheels, and S badging. Inside, fine Nappa leather is available as well as an Impulse leather package, compromising black trim with silver stiching in the coupe, and brown trim with espresso-colored contrast stitching in the roadster.
Trust us when we say that we’re quite eager to get our hands on the TTS and we’ll be sure to give you our full driving impressions. In the meantime, click on the gallery below for some live shots and click through the jump for Audi’s full press release.
Audi is taking the wraps off a new sports car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Sunday, January 13, 2008 with the Audi TTS, the top of the TT model line. It will be coming to dealer showrooms in the early summer (late November 2008 in the U.S.). Under its hood lies a two-liter TFSI high-performance engine delivering a mighty 200 kW or 272 hp (265 hp in the U.S.). This intense power propels the TTS Coupe to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) from a standstill in just 5.2 seconds and on to a governor-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph). The Audi TTS is available as both a 2 + 2-seater coupe and as a roadster.
Designed to appeal to a young and dynamic clientele, the TTS represents the Audi brand's Vorsprung durch Technik (“advancement through technology

I'm surprised about the coupe's reported weight--just under 3,100 lbs. That is only a little heavier than the Cayman and Z4. Has Audi made the Quattro all-wheel-drive system standard, or is the base TT still front-drive? If so, that and the four seats make its sports car status questionable. I have no problem calling it the nicest-looking German coupe on the road today, though.

The press release says quattro is standard. Under 3100 lbs WITH AWD. That's impressive.
