Spotted: 2009(?) Mercedes-Benz SL
Details at this stage are slim, but Hidden Image has caught Mercedes-Benz’s luxo-cruiser convertible, the SL, sporting some substantially redesigned bodywork. According to shooter Hans Lehmann, the prototype seen here is actually the AMG variant of the SL lineup, and was caught testing near the Arctic Circle.
Expected in late 2008 or early 2009, the next SL will apparently get a new front-end (including headlamps, grille, and air intakes) that resemble Benz’s new CL-Class. The SL’s pending rear-end restyling doesn’t appear to be as dramatic, but new taillamps and fascia changes are expected, as well as some possible interior updates.

I've always been a big fan of the SL line, from the original 300, through the 80s-90s... but these latest iterations remind me too much of the previous version of the Ford Mustang. Especially from the rear and 3/4 views.

I do not understand how a supposedly intelligent group of people can subvert the panache of a brand in only ONE generation. Mercedes- in my childhood- was something to aspire to own. Now, with COMAND and the absurd techno-race going with BMW, they have managed to make the brand the one for successful Amway distributors. Sad. Herr Benz must be turning in his grave.

It is very obvious this is going to be the new SL63 AMG. Mercedes benz wouldn't dream about comming out with a new generation SL and only change the grill and maybe headlights..... 63 is the only possibility

I love how it was a "spy shot", as if the Germ didn't tell Hans to go with them for some footage - give me a break - plus, there's not much that' going to be changed anyway, if this vehicle is the basis for any change.... it's still a great vehicle, but not much has changed,

If you owned a 2007 SL550, as I do, you wouldn't say such a silly thing. It is a fast, agile car with lots of character, as well as great technology. COMAND works well after you use it for about 1 day.

As we can see the new look SL has been spotted in the Arctic circle! As you might expect Mercedes has kept the test car under wraps in front and back. The new look is rumored to match the new CL, which would make sense. Apparently the interior trim might be changed as well. It may be a facelift, but still a gorgeous car with great Mercedes performance parts. Can't wait to have one...

I'm disappointed. I have the current SL500... I'd expect a total redesign similar to the one made in 2003. The overhaul was an amazing improvement over the 2002 model. Simply changing the grill and adding air intakes to the front is a farse.
