Maybach to Spawn Convertible, SUV?
It’s no secret that DaimlerChrysler’s plutocrat outpost, Maybach, has been beset by slow sales and so-so reviews since the brand first came (back) online. Despite shifting just 280 of the big limos last year, the brand appears set to trudge forward with an expanded range of models.
According to CAR Magazine, the 57 and 62 sedans currently on sale will form the basis for a landaulet variant, with a roofless passenger compartment incorporating a power-actuated canvas top. About 25-50 of these are planned.
Additionally, plans are apparently afoot to take the Mercedes-Benz GL SUV and trim it out with Maybachian fittings, resulting in about 1500 units. Changes would include a new grille, lights, bumpers, and a loaded-up interior with the rear lounger-chairs that are already available in the company’s sedans.
Will DCX really build Maybachs in Tuscaloosa? We’ll see.

I thought they were actually phasing out the Maybach brand since the sales weren't so hot... but guess not.

And talk about problems with Chrysler? Both Maybach and Smart lost more money than Chrysler did in three years.
