Of the multiple launches Volkswagen is planning for the Geneva Motor Show next week, one of the most interesting is a Passat Estate variant capable of running on both regular gasoline, and natural gas.

I like the idea of natural gas with regular petrol, but I do not like the idea of having to fill up with 95 octane, it is expensive

@ Cicero- i don't know where you live, but apparently in Europe, 95 octane is the lowest available octane rating. their octane rating system isn't the same as America's, but it's still equivalent to premium fuel here.
and does anyone know why we've yet to see the TSI (turbocharged and supercharged) engine in the States?

Those anybody know if this the same Natural Gas system as the Honda Civic?
@ Smokyburnout - I've wondered the same thing about the "Turbocharged and Supercharged" engine. My only guess is maybe it has to due with the Diesel requirements in the US as to why we haven't seen that engine yet.

I live in Texas and our lowest octane rating is 87 here

I live in California, so I beat both of y'all in market significance. I also beat all of you in the price of diesel here--40¢ above premium petrol. It's normally 10¢ to 20¢ above, but this gas hike has sent it to $3.70.
Natural gas vehicles are uncommon, yet present. I know of a Honda Civic NGV on campus. The dump trucks that pick up our dumpsters are powered by natural gas.

Yeah Ducati, it is very expensive to live in Cali, that is why so many people move from there

This copied from a blog asking the same question:
Germany has 91 (normal), 95 (Super) and 98 (Super Plus) octane gasoline. The American ratings are 86.8 (regular), 90 (middle grade), and 93 (premium). If you need 91 American octane, then you need Super Plus. Shell has recently introduced "Ultima" which has a rating (German) of 100. This equates to approx 94 American.
