Shots of Next Benz C-Class Surface! (*Updated)

The folks over at The Car Connection report that someone kindly plunked images of the next Mercedes-Benz C-Class in their inbox today, remarkable considering that the marque’s entry-level luxury sedan isn’t slated to debut until the 2007 Geneva Motor Show.

The sedan is reportedly set to get a sportier bent, though it will share more of its unseen bits with the company’s mid-level E-Class. The move should make it a better foil for the BMW 3-Series and upcoming Infiniti G35 replacement.

(Drivetrain details and link after the jump!)

TCC indicates that the base model will receive a 1.8-liter direct-injection I4, generating in the neighborhood of 150-190 horsepower. Next up is a 2.5-liter V6 generating 210 horsepower, and the top non-AMG 3.5-liter V6 should be good for 270 horsepower. Although TCC offers no such guidance, we’re guessing that only the latter engine will be available for U.S. consumption. Naturally, an AMG-fettled 5.4-liter V8 will make the scene as well, along with a 3.0-liter oil-burner.

* Update: We have been unable to confirm the authenticity of these shots, and to be fair, they look quite CLS-like. Could they be computer manipulated images? Perhaps. But knowing Mercedes’ penchant for trickle-down styling, we wouldn’t be surprised if they paint an accurate picture of the next C-Class regardless.

These are Photoshopped images. The guys over at Auto Insider News are pointing out a few key differences between the spy shots and these “official” images.

I think it looks too much like a Saab or Volvo. It doesn’t say “Mercedes” as prominently as the other one did…that said, it seems to be a step in the right direction of image.

Yeuch! This looks like a car gone through the first stage in a crusher. Get a grip Mercedes.

Like the front, although rear end reminiscent of Audi A4. AMG model should “pump up” the redesign cues. All in all…give Mercedes a “B” for effort.
