North American Car & Truck Of The Year Finalists Revealed

nacoty-logo.jpgWINDING ROAD has just received the short list of finalists for the 2007 North American Car and Truck of the Year.

The pool of jurors (including some staff-types here at the office) will vote on the short list this December, after much head scratching, bickering, and perhaps a bit of wheel time.

As is typical for the awards, some of the vehicles listed below aren’t even in press pool circulation yet (e.g. GMC Acacia), although all of the vehicles should be available to the motoring press before it’s time to cast ballots.

The next step for jurors will be to whittle the list down to three cars and trucks.

Honda’s Civic and Ridgeline swept the awards in 2006.

The Acadia made this list but what about its platform brother/sister the Saturn Outlook??

Reilly Brennan

One wonders how many people vote who haven't yet driven all the cars.

From a quick glance, I would expect that the Camry would be the car winner and the Mazda would be the truck winner. Although something tells me that Saturn could win both.

Reilly Brennan

Where's the Mazdaspeed3 on this list?

Don dada

It will between Lexus LS460 and Camry for car.

Truck: Acura MDX and Chevorlet Tahoe

The Saturn Outlook is not debuting this year.

Mazdaspeed3 is not a total redesign of the Mazda 3. It's just and updated version like the Type-S version of the Acura TL.

All the judges drive the cars.... how do you think they decide what is the best? Think for heaven sake.

I would like to see Honda/Acura get one of the categories.

Reilly Brennan

Based on your criterion above, the Saturn Vue Green Line shouldn't be included (since it's not a total redesign).

I bet more than one reader of this site would agree with me that there isn't a 100% drive rate on all the cars in the list across all the judges.

Kyle

I'm happy the FJ's there, but why would they leave out the redesigned Toyota Rav-4?

[...] We don”t want to steal all of their thunder, so follow the link to Winding Road to check out the short list for Truck of the Year finalists. As Winding Road points out, some of the vehicles on the lists aren”t even available for sale yet. However, by the time ballots are cast they should be available in various press pools for jurors to review. Honda ran away with all the hardware last year, for the Civic and Ridgeline (right), which was the first time a single make had ever won both awards. You can also check out a complete list of past winners here. [Source: Winding Road] [...]

They should break it down by catagories. The MDX is hardly a "truck". A wagon yes but not a "truck". The only real truck on your list is the Silverado. How about the F-150/250/350, Nissan titan, Toyota tundra/tacoma those are trucks.

Alexander

NORTH AMERICA CAR OF THE YEAR SATURN AURA, maybe Toyota Camry.

NORTH AMERCIA TRUCK OF THE YEAR CHEVROLET TAHOE/SUBURBAN/SILVERADO maybe toyota FJ Cruiser or VUE green Line

I hope those things won`t chance, i say maybe, cause toyota its always a favorit, but i don`t like, the new FJ CRUISER, and the camry, i always thing its a uglky cars, those are good cars, yeah, but ugly!!.

The nwe saturn Vue green Line, its on the list because it gat a redisegn, but il also has a nwe option, The green line its the hybrid version of the regular vue, that`s why this CUV its on te list.

¿¿The winner are announce usually in january at detroit, in the NAIAS ?????

JL

The Audi Q7 is the best truck I've ever driven and I've been exposed to Range Rovers, etc. It's the sleeper of the list.

economical practical cars, versa, calibre, b200 merc [too expensive metallic paint etc] all with cvt some with 7 selectable ratios, good handling smooth, quiet, economical. I am horrified by the old engineering on some of our domestic models, will be buying soon, would prefer domestic [for loyalty etc] but probably will buy import. Art.

CAR & DRIVER Please note: No matter what is clamed or said an/a SUV is not a truck!!! Especially ones like the Acura on a car platform.
