Mustang Giugiaro

Our own James P. Morse and Kevin R. Smith attended the off-site unveiling of Ford’s latest concept, the Mustang Giugaro last night, a vehicle said to presage the Blue Oval’s 2010 pony car.

The outlandish concept rolled in to the waiting throngs at a swanky loft north of Los Angeles, cribbed a few martinis, and then squeezed out through the exit before being loaded onto a waiting semi. Although WINDING ROAD editor Reilly Brennan and I were off in Tiguan-land at the time, we imagine our boys stuck around for a few more libations before filing their report.

As a proud owner of a 2005 GT, all I have to say is…WOW.

the whole front end is perfect. The fender fins are great, but the taillights should be lower, more square… the arrow-like shape is pure bravado. I hate the one-piece glass roof, that looks like a remnant of the sketch that should have been left on the sketch. obviously unproduceable, it also mangles the profile of the car, requiring the slopes of the windshield and rear glass to be too flat. mustangs are 3 box cars, this one needs more upright glass to make the fenders sit right. with the existing roofline, it looks like it’s been chopped. that said, I love it, and ford should incorporate that front-end, if not a lot of the fender-shapes on this car, into the mid-life freshening of the current model

I am a proud owner of a 2006 mustang. This mustang is ugly to say the least. If ford goes ahead with this design I guess that my 2006 mustang would be the last mustang that I would ever own.

I am a mustang fanatic. I love what they have done with the front, but the whole back has to completely change if it wants to stand against the 09 camaro.
