Ford Worker Wins Mega Millions, Says He’ll Never Buy Ford Again

mega-millionshl.jpgRecent Ford employee David Sneath from Livonia, Michigan had a dream come true on Tuesday. Sneath was able to quit his job at a Ford parts warehouse after 34-years of service with the Blue Oval, because he picked the winning numbers to the $136,000,000 Mega Millions lottery jackpot.

Not even the most loyal Ford employee could fault Sneath for quitting his job then and there, but the lottery winner wasn’t content to merely leave the automaker. The rather jaded former employee told reporters gathered at the lottery office that he had no plans to buy a Ford ever again. “I worked for Ford Motor Co.,” said Sneath, “I won’t be buying a Ford product.”

Sneath didn’t elaborate as to whether or not his Ford boycott stemmed from a lack of respect for the product line, or a pent up resentment for his former company, but it certainly wasn’t a ringing endorsement in either case. At least he didn’t burn down the building.

At around 4:00 p.m. the Associated Press corrected the David Sneath quote critical to this story to read, “I worked for Ford Motor Company. I won’t be buying a foreign product.” Thanks to all those who tipped in.

He did NOT say he would not be buying a ford product.
The CORRECT quote is that he would not buy a FOREIGN product.

read to the bottom where at least yahoo can correct mistakes that WR doesnt seem capable of doing.

Correct quote:
“Sneath said he doesn’t have any big plans for the money, but noted none will go toward buying a big, new foreign car.”

“I worked for Ford Motor Co.,” he said. “I won’t be buying a foreign product.”

from the story as posted and corrected on yahoo.

Well he doesn’t have to buy foreign if he doesn’t want to, but he shouldn’t waste his money on a Ford product either no matter how many millions he has.

butch, get over yourself. the originally linked story by jalopnik still indicates that he won’t be buying a ford product:

in fact, according to the following article, the AP and the Detroit Free Press BOTH got the quote wrong.

Jalopsic reported this wrong!!!!!! And you guys print it before you even verify it!!!

I just read it on yahoo and he never said this!

The question is what he really said, the FIRST time. It sounds like he got many calls after the first quote was reported. Did that pressure affect him? The fact that he names specific Ford products, makes it sound like the first quote was a mis-quote.

What exactly is domestic and what is foreign these days???

A Ford built in Mexico with parts sourced from all over is a domestic while a Toyota built in the USA also from parts sourced from all over in an import?

Hmmm…

Harley’s with Taiwanese gas tanks, Italian brakes and fuel injection… what is the world coming to?

andrew get over yourself .. ap posted the story originally and if you bother to look at cnn or msnbc you will notice the UPDATED ap story where they have corrected their mistake.

as for freep … if you would look at the title of the article you would notice in bold letters … ‘Sticking with Ford’.

So, now that we know the mixup, is Winding Road going to correct the title and body of the story?

Texas_Dude April 4th, 2008 6:02 PM Link

Wow, it’s still wrong. :P
