Ford’s Mulally Ponders Taking Lincoln Global

_alan_mulallyhl.jpgFord CEO Alan Mulally told German publication Auto Motor und Sport that the company is considering bringing the Lincoln brand global.

Lincoln counted 130,700 sales worldwide in 2007, but a tiny one percent of those sales came outside of the North American market. Mulally and Ford seem to believe that Lincoln has got potential to do much more than that. Said the CEO, “We are considering distribution in Europe and Asia. We already sell Lincolns in the Middle East.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL oh please. Nobody is going to pay a premium price for a rebadged Ford.

Dear Mr. Mulally,

To evaluate this business opportunity, you should start and end with Cadillac's experience in Europe. They sell in the hundreds...

Peter

Speaking from Europe... thanks, but no thanks. You've lost a fortune on Jaguar already, what has the same outdated product concept without even the much loved badge got for us? Get real.

Sell Ford and keep Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover, not the other way round.

This should have been saved for April.

Mercedes, BMW, etc design their top of the line cars to be top of the line. Then they cheapen the materials, go with vinyl instead of leather, or put in smaller engines on smaller bodies to make the lower priced models. The Americans build the cheapest car they can, then give it a leather package and call it luxury. Frankly I hate Fords, so with that in mind, if Mulally could spend enough money on Lincoln to persue this boondoggle, maybe Ford could go out of business and then in a few more years they would cease to be a blight on our highways!

Mullaly is nuts. If Lincoln is surviving on the back of the Navigator in NA; even a moron would know that a giant SUV is not gonna be a big seller in Europe, with it's narrow roads and lousy parking. Maybe the MDX, oops, I mean the MKX, might get a few takers, but not enough to get excited about.

Let's face it, if Lincoln can barely catch our attention in NA, it's home base, how can they possibley hope to compare to Benz and BMW in Europe?

If Mullaly wants to have a legacy of having done something useful for Ford, he should close down Mercury for good and have Lincoln start designing unique vehicles, not just tarted up fords.

I love my Navigator. Sure as hell wouldn't drive it in Europe.

I am an adamant supporter of American cars. I have no idea why nobody wouldn't buy one. I also know that trying to sell Lincolns in Europe is retarded.
