Feeling Fatigued At The Wheel? Let The AAlert Be The Judge

driver-aalert-band.jpgHere’s an interesting little idea from designer Daniel Ruffle – the AAlert Driver Fatigue Wrist Device, a rubber wristband that uses both motion and timing sensors to determine whether drivers are suffering from fatigue.

The idea is that periodically the AAlert sends a vibration to one’s wrist, and the device then requires a reaction (movement) on behalf of the driver to stop said vibration. The band then records associated reaction speeds over a period of time and determines how alert the driver is based upon these responses.

Prototype units feature an internal accelerometer and RFID tag reader (which activates the device when you enter a vehicle). The unit also functions as a traditional wristwatch, and could presumably be integrated into different housings to look like other traditional timepieces.

No word yet on how successful the device has been in testing, or if a production run is planned.
