Yeah, it’s been cold here, too.
Artists Mary Carothers and Sue Wrbican have created an interesting piece of automotive art on the grounds of Michigan Tech University, located on the western side of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
In an effort to raise discussion about “society’s dependence on mobility” the pair has undertaken piece of work they call the Frozen Car Project. The car in question is a 1978 Chevy Nova, selected for its significance relative to the oil crunch of the 1970’s. The artists, with help from a variety of local volunteers, have frozen the Nova into a solid block of ice, and have plans to chronicle the work as nature takes it toll on it, including the inevitable spring thaw (any time now please).
While the Frozen Car Project may be slightly dubious as a political statement, it’s a fairly impressive looking piece, with the frosty Nova seeming to burst out of a solid ice block. Have a look in our gallery below and give us your impressions in comments.

Will rival Wisconsin Tech at Kenosha create an ice bound Gremlin in response?
the is a malibu not a nova
definately a Nova.. political or not (what the hell isn’t political these days?) it’s pretty cool looking.
Public art, political statement, or monument to America’s greatest friend (the car!), it’s an interesting piece of work. Is there really a car frozen inside?

Yes, it is a Nova. I wonder how much global warming energy was used in the production of this piece of art (including the gas used by people to drive to and from the site to work on it).
It was cooler when I thought they had actually carved the whole thing out of a block of ice. Now that I see it’s just a Nova with a thin layer of ice coating the outside, it’s just not as interesting.

They should have made a contest out of it, covered it with more ice, and had less showing, and had people guess what car was undereath. As the ice melted, more “clues” were revealed. (maybe could have raised money for something at the same time too).
Don’t really see the political statement, but it looks cool!
Perhaps they’re trying to say that automobiles are cold blooded environment killers… I don’t know. Man-made global warming extremists don’t have a grasp on logic, so they can be hard to interpret at times.
Whoa! This totally like makes me think of our Earth Mother and like how we can like be better care-takers of like ice and stuff.
