Is Bugatti Planning a $3 Million Track Car?

lydiahl.jpgRumors are starting to circulate that Bugatti is planning an extremely limited run new model, built to be a sort of track-going version of the Veyron 16.4.

The new model, which is said to go by the code-name “Project Lydia” in reference to Ettore Bugatti’s wife, would share the Veyron’s 8.0-liter W-16 engine, though it could be tuned to an even greater power output. The car would also be tighter and lighter than the Veyron, having been designed for track use rather than high-speed touring.

German magazine Auto Motor und Sport have conjured a possible rendering of the beastly Bugatti, featuring a hellacious body kit and giant rear wing.

If Lydia were to take shape, chances are good that the company would only build a tiny total production run, perhaps around 70 cars. With numbers that small the racing Bugatti would look to sticker at around $3 million.

Since the Veyron was first released, Bugatti has been rumored to be producing “second models” as varied as an entry-level roadster, and an ultra-posh sedan, yet none so far have seen the light of day. As much as we would love to see a Lydia style race car, we’re not holding our breath for one in the immediate future.

I hope so. Something else for the ZR1 to beat.

the ZR-1 won’t be able to beat that car, or the normal Veyron.

I fail to see the point.

It looks like a flattened Veyron. Not very attractive. And unfortunately, it’s probably just another pipedream.

I love corvettes, but Zelman’s right…even the regular Veyron would smuggly walk away from a ZR1 in any acceleration or track test. Best bargain that can beat “almost” everything else?…ZR1. (Veyron is one of a handful of cars that even the ZR1 can’t pick on);)

DO IT!!! Don’t build so many though, I’d say 50 tops.
