‘08 NAIAS: Saturn Flexes Flextreme’s Muscles at Live Reveal
Don't you love it when an automaker badge-engineers concept cars? GM may be the most guilty of such nomenclature slight-of-hands; we've seen the Opel Antara GTC become the Saturn PreVue and the GM Sequel morph into the Chevrolet Sequel. The Saturn Flextreme isn't much different; we first became familiar with the E-flex concept last September, when it was launched as the Opel Flextreme at the Frankfurt motor show.
Save for the badges, there's little difference between the Saturn and Opel concepts, but by showing it at the Detroit show, it carries a dual purpose. Not only does it hint at common styling themes between the brands in future products, but it also helps GM begin to position Saturn as a "green brand." Sure, the only hybrids the brand offers are two Vues and an Aura - and the chances of this baby being built are slim - but it does act as a temporary halo vehicle for Saturn on the auto show circuit.
