The Rinspeed sQuba Concept: “Attention Guaranteed”

squbahl.jpg

Swiss company Rinspeed is planning a concept for the Geneva Motor Show that makes your Grandpa’s Amphicar look (more) like a bath toy.

The car, which has more than a touch of Lotus Elise about it, is the latest in a proud tradition of vehicles that attempt to be equally at home on the land or in the water.

(Click through the jump to read on about the Rinspeed sQuba.)

The Rinspeed sQuba concept is seemingly based on James Bond’s Lotus Esprit from the film The Spy Who Loved Me, which you’ll remember could transform into a submarine. Strange as it sounds, Rinspeed boss Frank Rinderknecht had this film in mind when developing the sQuba, saying that the car, “symbolizes the realization of a long-cherished dream and of movie fictions.

"With zero emissions, zero pollution in the seven seas of this world."

I get so sick of this silliness. If the car is electric, then the electricity comes from somewhere. If the pollution created to generate the electricity is out of sight, does it cease to exist?

The same thing applies to hydrogen. You must generate electricity to run the hydrolysis reaction to create hydrogen and oxygen from water. Hydrogen isn't so much a fuel as a chemical energy storage medium. Crude oil comes out of the well with that energy already in it. That's why it is a fuel.

Apparently the important issue is appearances, not the reality of pollution and energy.

This will a Shocker.

Uh, it just looks like they sunk a Tesla.

No wait, isn't that what Tesla is doing? ;)

Ben

I think they're trying to make the next Bond car.

Oh, and I think Tesla is hiring engineers if anyone is interested (seriously).

But remember, "Attention Guaranteed". That is very important. Do not be forgetting of that very important guarantee.

Did the Iraqi Ex-Minister of Information write this press release?

Sounds like the copy was translated into Chinese and then retranslated into English by a different translator. But really "chartguy", lighten up! You wouldn't want to be considered in the same company as Corco90210, would you?
