Leaked Images of Fiat 500 Abarth Ahead of Geneva
Sure to be one of the bright points of the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, some first official-looking renderings of the Fiat 500 Abarth have found their way onto the web, thanks to auto publication CarScoop.
Famed tuners Abarth have toughened up the tiny Fiat, kitting out what is admittedly one of the best looking European small cars in quite some time. The Abarth 500 is lower and meaner, with a blackened front diffuser merging nicely with a new bumper and side skirts. Italy’s national racing red can be found throughout the new fast Fiat, most poignantly in the center of the radically-cool Abarth five-spoke alloys.
There’ll certainly be loads more to discuss about the hot 500, once the car makes its happy entrance in Geneva in a few weeks. Until then, check out our mini gallery of Fiat 500 Abarth images.

Hey guys, Fiat have released more images (including some interior/engine bay details) and a little bit of text too, all available at NF500, here: http://nf500.com/2008/02/18/fiat-500-abarth-full-press-release-and-offic...
Enjoy!

But will it come to these United States? I know some people who hope so.

I actually don't like the Abarth. It seems to take the charm out of the 500 and beat it with an ugly stick. I mean, the performance parts are nice, but the exterior work, not so much, or at least for me.

I really like it from the angle shown above, but some of the photos I've now seen (take autoblog.it for example) it doesn't look quite so smooth.
You can only really tell when you see some cars 'in the metal'.

There was a rumor way back that they might bring the 500 over and sell it as a premium compact, like the Mini. any truth to this?

I had a chance to check out the 500 at a dealership in England last month. The car appears to have terrific details. The interior materials and styling are unique, attractive, and functional and it's quite roomy, more so than the Mini Cooper. In person, it's a really attractive car and the price over there puts is substantially less than a comparatively equipped Mini.
I'd love to have one over here, but between Fiat having no distribution network in the U.S. and their less than stellar quality reputation in this country (and even in Italy, for that matter) I'm not going to hold my breath.

I like it but usually premium compacts are a bit on the heavy side. I don't want to drive a 135hp 3000 lb car. It would definitely need more hp for the US market or really be lightweight (like the Elise).
