Truth time: We weren’t expecting to want to write about this car. You can forgive us for thinking we have been indulging in a few too many ridiculously high-horsepower AMG models lately, as Mercedes-Benz’s performance arm has been expanding its lineup at a dizzying clip. Besides, how many other 500-horsepower cars built from unobtanium can the market really bear?

There are two philosophies at work when thinking deeply about the Mercedes AMG line. I have never driven one. I won’t lie like some would in the wide world of the Web, creating a false aura of automotive experience and supreme knowledge of wheeled wonders. I have to go by what I read about these expensive German machines. Perhaps from that outside perspective, one can see things in a more objective manner.
